Production

Screenwriter Simon Beaufoy wrote slum dog millionaire. by 2006, british production companies Celador Films and film 4 productions invited director Danny Boyle to read the script of slum dog millionaire, and at first Danny Boyle didn't want to make a film about who wants to be a millionaire, but learnt that Beaufoy wrote one of his favourite brittish films, the full monty (1997). This film was projected to cost $15 million. Warner Independent Pictures made a $5 million offer to win rights to the picture. It was a low budget film.

Gail Stevens and Danny boyle have worked with eact other through out there careers and are well know for finding new talent. The film makers went to mumbai in september 2007, and began to higher local cast and crew from production in Karjat. The film had 10% of the dialogue in Hindi. The locations included shooting in Mumbai's megaslum in shantytown and parts of Juhu. Filming began on 5th november 2007.

Simon Beaufoy wrote Slum dog millionaire based on the novel Q & A (2005) by Indian author and diplomat Vikas Swarup.
In Q & A, the quiz show is called Who Will Win a Billion? offering a top prize of one billion rupees. In Slumdog Millionaire, the show is Who Wants to Be a Millionaire and the top prize is 20 million rupees.


Cast

Dev Pate - Jamal Malil : The protagonist, He is as boy born and raised in poverty in the slums of Mumbai. Boyle looked at hundreds of male actors, His daughter suggested Dev Patel out from his role in the british drama programe skins.

Freida pinto- Litika : she is Jamal's love intrest. Pinto was an indian model who had not starred in a film before

The rest of the cast was just oridinary people from mumbai, Many people thought that because there was no A list stars it wouldn't be successful but it was. The good thing about having unknown stars is that they don't cost as much to higher so more money can be spent on location, crop
